From news at hppp-pc.org Tue Jan 5 04:56:15 2010 From: news at hppp-pc.org (Portage County Hunger and Poverty Prevention) Date: Mon, 4 Jan 2010 19:56:15 -0600 Subject: [Hppp_News] Community Poverty Simulation Message-ID: To: Those interested in addressing Poverty and Hunger in Portage County: Could you survive in poverty? We are inviting you to walk a mile in the shoes of those facing poverty by participating in a Poverty Simulation hosted by Portage County Hunger Poverty Partnership in collaboration with CAP Services, Inc. Community members interested in understanding hunger and poverty in Portage County are invited to participate. The Poverty Simulation provides participants with the opportunity to assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget. It is difficult for us to truly understand the situations that families living in poverty experience every day; the decisions they have to make, and the fears and frustrations they feel. For example, did you know in this past quarter: ? Operation Bootstrap served 699 for non food emergency services ? Salvation Army served food to over 4,000 guests. ? There are enough students in the Stevens Point Public Schools to warrant a homeless school coordinator?. Don?t miss out on joining us for this eye opening experience! What: Community Action Poverty Simulation When: Friday, February 12th from 8:45-11:45 AM Where: Woodlands Church, 190 Hoover Ave, Plover RSVP: Laura Hanneman 344-5938 or email: lhanne03 at yahoo.com by FEBRUARY 5, 2010 ADMISSION: INTEREST IN UNDERSTANDING HUNGER AND POVERTY?
